MOLECULA (package com.versus.molecula) is a mobile game developed and
operated independently. For any question related to this policy, contact us at
versus.appsStore@gmail.com.
MOLECULA does not require an account or a sign-in. It never asks you for your name, your email or your phone number. The game is fully playable offline.
When there is a connection, it sends our server two things: a short record of how the game is used, and — once you have signed the notebook with a nickname — your marks for the ranking. Both are tied to a random identifier, not to your identity. This is the whole list.
The first time it runs, the game draws a random identifier on your device. It is not your advertising ID, not a device serial, and it is not derived from anything about you or your phone. It tells one player from another, and it is the key to your own row in the ranking: it is never shown or sent to other players.
| Data | What it is | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Days the game is opened | The date of each day you open the game, and the first and last time it connected, with the player identifier | Count how many people play, and how many come back |
| Each practical played | The chemical formula the practical asked you to build (for example CH4),
how the attempt finished (you built it, you ran out of moves, an atom went into
overload, or you left the practical), how many moves you used, how long the game was
in front of you, when it happened, and whether it was a trial run |
See which compounds are worth keeping in the catalogue, which ones stop people, and whether a practical fails because its move budget is too tight or because the molecule is laid out confusingly |
| Your phone's language | The language tag your device is set to, such as es-ES or
en-GB |
Decide which languages the game is worth translating into |
| App version and Android version | The version of MOLECULA you are running and the Android API level of your device | Know which release the data belongs to, and which Android versions still need supporting |
Nothing is sent to the ranking until you sign the notebook. After you solve your first practical the game asks you for a nickname, with a generated one (a chemical symbol and a few digits) already filled in. From then on it sends:
| Data | What it is | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Nickname | 3 to 12 letters, digits or underscores, chosen by you. You can change it at any time from the ranking page. Please do not use your real name | Show you in the ranking |
| Your totals | Total points, total stars and the number of practicals you have solved | Place you in the ranking |
| Your mark in each solved practical | The formula, your best number of moves, its stars and points, and when you first solved it and last improved it | Work out the weekly ranking, and restore your marks on the server if a transmission is lost |
| App version | The version of MOLECULA that sent the marks | Know which release a mark comes from |
The ranking is public. Other players see your nickname, your position, your points, your stars and how many practicals you have solved. They see nothing else.
| Data | Where it is stored | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Whether the instructions booklet has already been shown | Locally on your device only (Android SharedPreferences) | Avoid reopening the tutorial on every launch |
| Current practical and in-app preferences, such as the color-blind aid | Locally on your device only (Android SharedPreferences) | Resume the game where you left it |
| How many times you have supported the developer | Locally on your device only (Android SharedPreferences) | Show the thank-you stamp on the support page |
| Temporary image of a share card (PNG) | App cache folder, only when you tap the share button | Hand the image over to the app you choose in the system share sheet |
We do not collect GPS or any other location data, contacts, camera, microphone, email, name, phone number, device model or serial, or any sensor data. Our own records hold no IP address and no advertising ID; our hosting provider may process your IP address briefly in its technical logs, as any server does. Google does process both if you choose to watch an ad; that is described in section 4.
The current version has no setting to turn off the usage data or to leave the ranking. If you would rather not send either, you can play without a connection — the game works in full offline — and you can ask us at any time to delete what has already been sent; see section 11.
The page Settings › support the developer offers voluntary ways to help. The game never opens it on its own, never shows an ad you did not ask for, and nothing on it unlocks practicals or gives points.
If you tap support with an ad, the game asks Google AdMob for one video ad and shows it. It is the only advertising in the game, and it is requested only when you tap that line.
To deliver the ad, measure it and prevent fraud, Google's advertising software inside the app collects and processes data on its own account, including your device's advertising ID, your IP address (from which an approximate location can be derived), information about your device and the app, how you interact with the ad, and diagnostic data. We do not receive that data and do not add it to our own records. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services and Google's privacy policy.
Your consent. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the first time you ask for an ad Google's consent message is shown before anything else. You can consent, refuse, or choose purpose by purpose. If you refuse, any ad you are shown is not personalised. You can change your choice whenever you like from the ad privacy link at the foot of the support page. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's settings (Google › Ads).
The three contributions on that page are optional one-off purchases made through Google Play. The payment is handled entirely by Google: we never see your card or any other payment detail. As with any Play purchase, Google gives us a record of the order — its number, the product, the amount, the country and the date — which we use for accounting, tax and refunds. Purchases are governed by Google's privacy policy.
The game can generate an image card with your result (the solved formula, or your total points and number of solved practicals) so you can share it if you want to. This only happens when you tap the share button: the image is written to the app's private cache folder and passed to the system share sheet, where you choose the destination app. We never upload it anywhere and we do not know what you do with it. Once it is handed over, the content is governed by the privacy policy of the app you chose (messaging, social network, email, etc.).
The app allows Android's standard Auto Backup. This means your progress, your player identifier and your nickname may be included in the backup your device makes to your own Google account, and restored if you reinstall the game or change devices — so a new phone carries on as the same player, with the same row in the ranking. That backup belongs to you and is handled by Google under Google's privacy policy; we have no access to it. You can disable it at any time from your device's backup settings.
The usage data is read in aggregate, on a dashboard that shows counts and averages: how many people opened the game this week, which compounds are attempted most, how often each one ends in a solved molecule rather than an exhausted move budget, which languages the players have their phones in. It exists to tell us what to build and what to fix. The ranking data is used to draw up the ranking, and for nothing else.
Nobody else receives your data.
Our database is hosted by Supabase in Ireland, inside the European Union. We do not transfer the data outside the EU ourselves. Supabase and its own providers may process data elsewhere as part of providing the service, under their own safeguards and standard contractual clauses; see Supabase's privacy policy, linked above. Data that Google collects for the ad or for a purchase is processed by Google, which operates worldwide.
We hold no name, no email and no account. What we hold is tied to a random identifier and to the nickname you chose, so the way to point us to your data is your nickname.
If you have any question about your rights, or wish to make a request, write to versus.appsStore@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
Data stored on your device stays within the app's private storage area, protected by Android's application sandbox. Usage and ranking data travel to our server over HTTPS, encrypted in transit, and are stored on Supabase's infrastructure with access restricted to us. The game cannot read the database directly: it can only send your own records and read the public ranking.
MOLECULA is suitable for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. The ad and the contributions are optional, are never shown or offered outside the support page, and purchases go through Google Play, where a parent or guardian can require approval.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. For material changes — such as the ones made in versions 1.10 and 1.13 — we will notify you within the app or the store listing.
